Matt is a hydrologist and engineer who works mainly in urban areas. He has significant experience in the monitoring and modelling of blue-green infrastructure. Matt has worked as an environmental drainage engineer for local government, a role which involved the design and construction supervision of several blue-green infrastructure projects. He also co-leads the teaching of Water Sensitive Urban Design at The University with Prof Tim Fletcher. A recent focus of Matt’s research has been the application of real-time control technology. A trial is underway in Monbulk Creek which is testing the ability of a network of smart tanks and storages to improve flows for a small, but important population of platypus.
